Almost 80 years ago, Thomas Meadows, back in England on leave from the British consular service in China, wrote one
Every now and again you need to go back and read a Trollope book or two. They are unexcelled for sharp amusement, intrigue, and just straight enjoyment, and inside the books you find things, such as New Zealand and kauri gum.
